1. MDB (Multi-Drop Bus) Protocol Support

MDB is the communication standard that allows your machine to accept third-party payment devices, cashless readers, and telemetry modules. Without MDB, you cannot add a card reader. Without a card reader, you are locked out of the 35–50% of vending customers who prefer cashless payment.

2. Working Bill Validator

A functional, calibrated bill validator ($1, $5, $10, $20) is essential for any cash-accepting machine. The most common validator brands — MEI/Mars, JCM, CPI — are reliable and have widely available replacement parts.

Before buying a used machine, test the bill validator with each denomination. Look for validators that accept current bill series (post-2013 US currency redesign). Older validators may need retrofitting to accept newer bills.

For cold drink and combo machines: the cabinet must seal properly for refrigeration to function. 6. Guaranteed Delivery / Drop Sensor System

A guaranteed delivery system uses sensors (infrared or mechanical) to verify that a dispensed product actually reached the delivery bin. If product delivery fails (stuck coil, jammed item), the machine either re-attempts dispensing or issues an automatic refund. This prevents the most frustrating customer experience in vending — paying and receiving nothing.

7. DEX Port for Telemetry
